The Teacher Trainer JournalWelcome to Volume 22, Number 2 the 'Summer' 2008 issue of the Teacher Trainer journal. Summer from the point of view of the UK of course as this is where we are based. You may be in winter as you read this in your part of the world! Whatever season you are enjoying, I'd like to tell you about the latest issue.

It contains articles by some very well-known teachers and trainers such as Penny Ur on using, rather than wasting, class time (see P 2), and Tessa Woodward on a neat way of dealing with diversions in a session (see P 6). It also includes people from outside our own field but very well-known in their own, such as Maggie Farrar on leadership (see P 8) and Una May Olomolaiye on voice training (see P 20). There are complete newcomers to our journal (see the 'January trainers' p 4) and trainers who have published before and who have a very interesting angle on, for example, using poetry (see P 10) participation grades (see P 14) and role playing methodolgoies (see P 21). All our new series – News in Our Field, It’s a Wired World, and Article Watch – are back this time too, as are our established series Conference Report, Book Review and Publications Received.

Authors this time include...Penny Ur, Tessa Woodward, Susan Barduhn, Maggie Farrar, Gary Harfitt, Nicky Hockly, Joseph Edward Price, Seth Lindstromberg, Una May Olomolaiye, Denny Packard and the 'January Trainers'!

With all these goodies packed into the current issue I hope you will feel like subscribing which you can now do online!

Lots!

1. First of all, please see our ‘Call for articles!’ We would like you to send some in now that our backlog has been successfully coped with via the print journal and this web site.

2. I am very happy to announce that you can now subscribe online. Please click on the ‘Subscribe online’ button and follow the links!

3. The free, downloadable ‘Articles bank’ is now a really fine resource.

4. We have added a new article to our new section called TTTJ Plus (for articles which are brand new and have never appeared in the print journal). The new article is called When College Is Over: Continuing the Professional Development of Language Teachers by Jersus José Colmenares López, USA/Venezuela.

5. Last time we asked subscribers to help us to update the useful bibliography on this web site. When The Teacher Trainer started in 1986 there were literally only a handful of professionally related books to help us modern language teacher trainers with our work. These days there are many, many more. We all have our favourites of course. The list of books on this site was contributed, a few years back, by Dr Ian McGrath, Associate Professor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Recently some new books and article collections have appeared which could be useful to trainers, mentors and teacher educators. The list has now been updated and appears in the current issue.

6. Nicky Hockly’s ‘It’s a wired world’ column is now archived on this website so that you can find e-issues more easily. Visit the archive.

7. We have now added a ‘testimonials’ section so you can see what people think of the journal.

8. Why not advertise in the journal? If you have a book or other product, are putting on a conference or other event, why not let us advertise it for you? We can take small and large adverts, banners and flyers and our rates are really reasonable!
